Hi, I'm Shahid. I build apps and Shopify stores, and write about what I learn.

I'm a frontend developer at Anatta, a Shopify Platinum Partner, where I build storefronts for direct-to-consumer brands. Before that I worked on Vue and Nuxt frontends at F6S and spent three years at Media.net building web products for Forbes.

Outside of work I make my own apps for iOS, Android and Chrome. There are 7 so far, like Time Zone Pro, Didnt and The Qibla on the App Store, Scrittor on Google Play and the open source Tailwind CSS Cheat Sheet, which over a thousand developers use.

I also take on a few freelance projects at a time, for clients anywhere in the world.

My first job was at Endurance, which is now Newfold Digital. I started there in 2017 as a Senior Web Solutions Specialist, helping customers with their websites, hosting and domains over calls, chats and emails. The shifts rotated and a lot of them were at night. I was happy to have a job, but I'd been building Android apps for fun since college, and about a year in I knew I wanted to build things myself.

So I started teaching myself web development. CSS, JavaScript and how websites actually get built. The problem was that my résumé had no development experience on it. I built small projects to fix that, and then I needed somewhere to show them. The company was giving employees free domains at the time, so I got shahidshaikh.com and made my first portfolio on it.

That website changed a lot for me. Recruiters started reaching out, I got interviews because of it, and within a few months I had my first UI developer job. I wrote about it here.

I still think the best way to get noticed is to build things and put them where people can see them. That's pretty much why this site exists.
