I Realized No One Was Listening, So I Started Writing

By Shahid Shaikh (Dec 28, 2025)

Ever since I started to ask some difficult questions around life like why are we here, who made us, what is our purpose. Those questions pulled me into a lot of knowledge - philosophy, religion, psychology, history, human behaviour. Most of it didn’t even answer those questions directly. It just changed how I started seeing everything else.

I’ve lived my life with all this information in my head and never thought of expressing it through writing which I think is better than just talking because when you talk, you can see it - that tiny change in someone’s expression when they’ve stopped listening. They’re still looking at you, but they’re already somewhere else. Either waiting for their turn to speak or forming a response while you’re still talking

Do people even listen anymore or do they just wait for their turn to speak?

And since talking hasn’t really helped me express what I’m actually thinking, so I guess writing might? (I am just making assumptions may be you’ve already lost me on line six)

At least here, I don’t have to look for that little shift in someone’s face that tells me they checked out five minutes ago. I can take my time. I can say what I mean properly.

That said, even as I’m writing this, I’m aware of how short our attention spans have become, thanks to constant dopamine hits from social media. Well I guess my thoughts will just go unnoticed.

Still, I’ll write.

Maybe no one reads it today. Maybe it doesn’t matter. But maybe, a hundred years from now, when some future generation digs up old hard drives from a forgotten time, they’ll stumble upon this.

A small ruin of thoughts left behind by someone trying to understand why he was here at all. I think this sounds better
