Privacy policy in simple words.
Ihsan is an Android app for the Quran, hadith, prayer times and adhkar. I'm Shahid, I built it on my own, and I don't collect anything about you. There is no account, no ads, no analytics and no server of mine that the app talks to.
What the app saves, and where
Everything below is saved on your phone only. I can't see any of it.
- Your place in the Quran
- Your bookmarks
- Your settings: theme, text size, prayer calculation method, madhab, notification choices and the location you picked for prayer times
- Tafsir passages you have opened, so they work offline next time
- The adhan audio file, if you choose one
The app keeps no streaks and no history of what you read or when.
Location
Prayer times and the Qibla direction need to know roughly where you are. You can either search for your city or tap “Use my current location”. The app only asks for approximate location, and only when you tap that button. It never checks your location in the background.
The coordinates are saved on your phone and the prayer times are calculated on your phone. Your location is not sent to me or to anyone else.
When the app uses the internet
Almost everything works offline. The app connects to the internet in only two cases:
- City search. The city name you type is sent to Open-Meteo's geocoding service to find its coordinates.
- Tafsir. The first time you open the tafsir of an ayah, the app downloads it from Quran.com. The request contains the ayah number and which tafsir you chose.
Like any request on the internet, these services can see your IP address. The app sends them nothing else about you or your device. Your current location is never part of these requests.
Permissions
- Approximate location: only for “Use my current location”. You can skip it and search for your city.
- Notifications, alarms and run at startup: to notify you at prayer times, on the minute, and to keep doing so after your phone restarts. Notifications are off until you turn them on.
- Foreground service (media playback): to play the adhan at prayer time if you chose it as the notification sound.
- Internet: for the city search and tafsir described above.
Android backup
If backup is turned on in your phone's settings, Android saves your place in the Quran, your bookmarks and your settings (which include the location you picked) to your own Google account, so they come back when you move to a new phone. That backup is between you and Google. I have no access to it, and you can turn it off in your phone's settings.
Sharing
I don't have your data, so there is nothing for me to sell or share with anyone.
Deleting your data
Uninstall the app, or go to your phone's Settings, then Apps, then Ihsan, then Storage and tap “Clear storage”. That removes everything the app saved. There is nothing to delete on my side.
Children
The app is fine for all ages and doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If the app starts handling data differently, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
